Manchester United are the favourites to sign Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard as early as this January.
Manager Rafa Benitez and owner Roman Abramovich have refused to offer the 34 year-old a new contract with the club after as his current one ends this summer. Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have turned down Frank Lampard when offered him last season due to midfielder Paul Scholes coming out of retirement, however a year on he is thought to be extremely keen on signing him.
United have been linked with multiple big midfield names this transfer window, but with most having price tags which hardly justify their ability, a player of Lampards quality could be the signing of the decade is he arrives on free transfer. Ferguson is famous for bringing the best out of older players with key players such as Giggs and Scholes both playing strongly despite being in their late thirtys.
