Sturridge's Injury Will See Him Miss Brazil

England striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of Wednesday's international friendly against Brazil due to a thigh injury.

Sturridge arrived at St George's Park on Sunday evening with the rest of the squad, however was unable to train on Monday so was sent back to Liverpool to undergo further treatment at his parent club. The 23 year-old inform striker was injured during Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Manchester City in which he scored a stunning opener for the Reds. Despite picking up the injury in the first half, was not substituted until the dying stages.

Sturridge's injury leaves Hodgson with only two fit strikers in the form of Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck after Totenham striker Jermaine Defoe picked up an ankle injury on Sunday. Hodgson however does have the opportunity to play Arsenal's Theo Walcott upfront if he wishes.
