UEFA have confirmed that Euro 2020 will be played in 13 different cities in a key change to the tournaments format, with the semi-finals and final all being played in the same stadium.
The event has been co-hosted in the past with Poland and Ukraine sharing the tournament in 2012, and Belgium and the Netherlands teaming up in 2000. Europes governing body has now confirmed how many contries will be involved in the tournament in seven years time, whilst also confirming that only one stadium will host both the semi-finals and the final.
Wembley Stadium will make a bid to host the closing stages, although they can expect rivalry from Rome, Berlin, Madrid and Istanbul. It is thought that The FA will also bid for group matches if their bid for Wembley is unsuccessful, whilst Cardiff, Dublin and Glasgow are expected to also make a bid for group games.
It is thought that Istanbul are current favourite to host the closing legs of the tournament, bot only if their bid for the 2020 Olympics loses, with UEFA president Michel Platini assuring that he would back the Turkish city.
Despite these big names, UEFA have tried to urge smaller nations to make bids with stadiums as small as 30,000 capacity being able to host, however a stadium with a capacity of at least 70,000 is required in order to host the final stages.
