Coloccini Agrees To Stay At Newcastle

Newcastle wantaway Fabricio Coloccini will stay at the club until at least the end of the season said manager Alan Pardew.

The clubs captain, who had signed a new four-year deal with the club only last season announced his wishes to return to Argentina this January due to personal reasons. However after days of careful negotiations, the defender has decided to stay at the club and will keep the captains arm band.

Pardew said: "Coloccini is going to stay with us and will remain as captain, which is fantastic news for us"

"We have managed to persuade him that, as much as his family, we need him. He has shown fantastic loyalty to come and play and see us through to the summer at the very least.".

Newcastle have already strengthened their defence this January with Mapou Yang-Mbia, an apparent replacement for the Argentinian, as well as bringing fullbacks Mathieu Debuchy and Massadio Haidara to the club.

Coloccini has undoubtedly been a huge player for the club since joining from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008. His part in obtaining a European qualification last season also saw him named in the PFA Team Of The Year.
