Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has refused to dismiss rumours regarding an attempt to bring Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott to the club.
Lescott, a confessed life-long Villa supporter, has fallen out of favour at Manchester City so may be looking to offer his services elsewhere and with Lambert describing Lescott as "a top player" it looks as if his future could lie at Villa. Lambert has said that he has the financial backing of owner Randy Lerner which will help him to strengthen the club. Despite this Lambert has admitted that Lescott would need to take a wage cut.
Despite Villa's interest, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini appears very uninterested agreeing a move for any players in January, and with fellow centre-back Kolo Toure heading to the African Cup of Nations, a move for Lescott seems even more unlikely.
