Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be out to up to three weeks after injuring knee ligaments in training this week.
The injury ruled him out of the boxing day victory against Newcastle and is thought to keep him out of action for the rest of the festive period. Rooney hasn't shown his usual goal scorer display this season after Arsenal legend Robbin Van Persie joined the club, however he has made up for this with his extraordinary high number of assists.
After the sides 4-3 victory, in which Rooney's replacement Javier Hernandez scored in the closing minutes, manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that the incident was down to a "volley towards the end of training. He did a ligament at the back of his knee and could be out for two to three weeks".
The worst case scenario for the club would be for the forward to miss Premier League games against West Brom, Wigan and Liverpool as well as an FA Cup third round tie against West Ham. However as the club are now 7 points clear at the top of the table, United can afford not to have Rooney in the team.
