Stunning Suarez Sinks Wigan

A Luis Suarez hatrick and a rare header from Stuart Downing were enough to sink a below-par Wigan by 4-0.

It only took two minutes for the scoring to be opened by Downing capitalizing on impressive work by Coutinho to head the ball home from six yards.

Thereafter the game was all about Luis Suarez. His first of the game came from another fantastic ball from Coutinho, before scoring his second 16 minutes later from a deflected free kick which deflected off of the head of the unfortunate Shaun Maloney.

Any remaining doubts regarding who would claim the three points were washed away with the Uruguayan's third of the night moving his club up to seventh in the table and leaving Wigan down in 17th.

Before the game Roberto Martinez would have tried to make sure that they did not concede early against the Premier League's top goalscorers of 2013 however it didn't take long for them  to do just that. It was apparent throughout the game that Wigan were unprepared for the threat presented by new boy Coutinho who proved to be deadly.

Wigan were also evidently struggling defensively, with Gary Caldwell having to separate James McArthur and Emmerson Boyce after heated discussions regarding even more defensive performances.
