Liverpool Become 2012 Carling Cup Heroes!


Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool side have beaten Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final to claim there first silverware since "King Kenny" became manager. The scoring was opened by Cardiff's Joe Mason. It was until the 60th minute when Liverpool equalised through defender Martin Skrtel.

It was a stalemate when the whistle blue after 90 minutes meaning that the clubs went to extra time. Substitute Dirk Kuyt scored a screamer of a rebound in the 108th minute which looked like it was set to be the victory goal, however with only two minutes left Cardiff found an equaliser through Ben Turner from a scrappy corner.

The game finally went to penalties with both Liverpool and Cardiff unable to score the first spot kick. However it ended 3-2 to the Reds after Anthony Gerrard hit his penalty wide of the post. Dalglish said after the game that he was delighted but is still looking to claim two pieces of silverware this season.
